Our Product

Endurance Races

Our affinity for mountain biking and trail running, combined with our love for Tanzania, left us no choice but to organize world-class endurance events here.

We work hard to ensure our courses are unique and challenging, with the perfect combination of varied terrain and spectacular scenery. We learn the names of our racers, host race briefings around campfires, and never let your glass sit empty.

Red Knot exhibits true Tanzanian hospitality while organizing quality races that feel like family.

Our Purpose

Accomplish Good

We firmly believe the solutions to the world’s problems lie in sacrificing ourselves in order to improve life for others.

We founded Red Knot to make the world a better place, and we stand by that commitment. A minimum of 2% of our total revenue supports community development work in Tanzania.

But it’s not just money we contribute; our staff personally assists farmers and youth to navigate the hardships they encounter. We believe the power to motivate others towards lasting change comes from relationships. The way forward is by walking alongside people — not in front of them.

We hope you will join us in accomplishing good in Tanzania.

Our Namesake

The red knot bird nests in the high Arctic and winters around the globe. Red knots are found on six continents and can travel up to six days and nights non-stop. Some of these little flyers migrate over 18,000 miles per year.  The red knot is unparalleled as an international endurance athlete.

Our Director

Brett Harrison

Brett is an experienced endurance athlete, coach and event organizer. He’s coached numerous runners to PRs, a US cross country team to the state finals, and loads of people from couch to 5K. Brett himself has multiple IronMan finishes, scores of 8+ hour days on bikes, and even a 100-mile ultra win (it was admittedly a VERY small field). The athletic achievement he’s most proud of is an 8:55 finish at Comrades (89km/55mi). All three of Brett’s children (9, 11, 13) are better swimmers than he is, and that keeps him humble.

Brett has lived in Tanzania since 2009, working in community development with a focus on increasing food security among rural people. Brett started Red Knot Racing Company in 2012, in order to fund agriculture development work. In 2019 Brett registered non-profit organization Red Knot Development to scale his existing community development work while expanding its scope to include sports development and wildlife conservation. Red Knot Safari Company is the last piece of the puzzle, customizing world-class safari and adventure itineraries for international travelers.
